Unboxing: Memebox Special #39 Cafe Box

First off, I want to apologize for the crappy photos in this post because I got this box while I was on holiday so it’s been sitting in my house for quite a while already. I really want to clear my backlog of unboxing and didn’t want to wait for good lighting! Also, since it’s quite late already I won’t actually list all the details/descriptions for the products out like I usually do – if you really want them, just drop me a note and I will try to send you the details!

The shipping date for this was fixed on 2 October and I received this sometime before 13 October. This box is priced at USD23, but I got it at VIP price of USD20, plus another USD6.99 for standard shipping.

What is Memebox?
Memebox is a non-subscription mystery beauty box company. Each regular Memebox comes with 4 to 8 full-sized or deluxe sample of Korean products, while Superbox comes with only full sized products. Shipping dates are set by the company; check the product description for information about when the box is scheduled to start shipping.

Item 1: Pure Smile [Original] Mask Sheet
Full size 23ml, Value of $1
Quick thoughts: I’m a huge mask sheet lover so I’m always glad to receive more of these. Although I do wish that they would put more than one piece! This is the Green Tea one.

Item 2: Binu Cook Ice Cream Scoop Cacao Body Soap
Full size 70g, Value of $3
Quick thoughts: This is actually a soap bar shaped like a scoop of chocolate ice cream. Honestly my first thought of it was it looks like s***, until I read the product card. I’m not a very big soap bar user – my toilet does not have space for a soap dish so it’s quite troublesome for me but I will still use it. I hope my family won’t think that I left a pile of s*** lying around in the toilet though.

Item 3: Holika Holika Dessert Time Lip Balm in Peach Cupcake
Full size 7g, Value of $6
Quick thoughts: This is really cute! I seem to always get the orange/peach shades from Memebox, but I don’t mind it for a lip balm since it will be pretty sheer anyway. This will be put to good use! Will probably bring it to the office because it looks so cute.

Item 4: Cleomee Anti-Wrinkle Donkey Lotion
Full size 240ml, Value of $83
Quick thoughts: This lotion made of donkey milk is meant for the face and body. This is a really big bottle, but $83 for this? Why?! I haven’t opened it yet so maybe it will turn out to be really amazing and I will definitely use it but seriously, Memebox, how is this $83?

Item 5: Tonymoly Latte Art Cappucino Cream-In Scrub
Full size 95g, Value of $13
Quick thoughts: This is a face scrub but look at how cute this is! This just totally screamed Cafe for me – it comes in a cute little frosted cup complete with a spoon! The spoon serves as a spatula for hygiene purposes so cute and useful – big plus for me!

Item 6: Vella Fresh Creamy Soap
Full size 100ml, Value of $13
Quick thoughts: A “whip-cream” cleanser that is supposed to lather up really well, and meant to be really hydrating with… donkey milk. The tub inside is really cute – like a tub of ice cream! So this scores for me more on the “cute” factor. But I’m also running low on cleansers so this came at a good time and will be put to good use!

Donkey milk seems to be the theme here. Am I missing some kind of link between a Cafe and Donkeys? I think this box will go down in my memory as the box filled with cute items and donkey milk. I don’t know about Korean Cafes, but I’m pretty sure the normal cafes in Singapore do not serve their coffee and tea with donkey milk!

I’m quite on the fence for this box – I like the cute factor, but was not really wowed by the content. I guess the theme was quite in line with the products, if you look at it with an open mind – there was a cup of coffee, tea, cupcakes, and (donkey) milk. There’s also a bonus of ice cream.

The value of this box came up to USD119 according to the product card but most of it was due to the donkey milk lotion that came in at USD83. I still can’t wrap my head around why a donkey milk lotion should cost that much! I love the lip balm, the cute little coffee cup and the sheet mask, but they only cost USD20 together, vs the USD26.99 I paid, so the value of the box to me is not that high. Or I can think of it this way – if I had bought those 3 items at their full value for USD20, then the rest of the 3 items only cost me USD6.99!

Did you get this box as well? What do you think of this box?

  1. Yep, I was having a tough time seeing the connection between donkey milk and cafes too. 🙂 I do love that little scrub though. I got the herbal face mask in mine but it wreaked havoc on my face. I’m usually not sensitive but i dont know if there was an ingredient in there that didn’t sit well with me? But i had a peeling dry face for a week. 😦
