Unboxing: Memebox Special #67 Blackout!

Another random beauty box that turned up on my door recently – like I mentioned in a previous unboxing post, I bought a lot of beauty boxes during a period of time that I felt really down and shopping was all I did. I really had no idea why I bought some of these…! From the theme of the box, I was expecting some charcoal products, or some ingredients that are black in colour, or something to get rid of black heads. Let’s check it out!

I bought this as a value set with the Memebox Special #66 Petit Treasures – so I only had to pay one standard shipping for 2 boxes with free upgrade to express shipping. The shipping date was fixed on 2 December and I received this on 6 December. The set of 2 boxes cost me USD38, plus another USD6.99 for shipping from Korea. Individually, it’s priced at USD19, plus another USD6.99 for standard shipping.

What is Memebox?
Memebox is a non-subscription mystery beauty box company. Each regular Memebox comes with 4 to 8 full-sized or deluxe sample of Korean products, while Superbox comes with only full sized products. Shipping dates are set by the company; check the product description for information about when the box is scheduled to start shipping.

Memebox Special #67 Blackout!
Black is still the new black! If intensity is your game, take the challenge with this Blackout Box. Say bye-bye to Miss Plain Jane and turn up the drama in your beauty routine with this Black Box! Packed with all things beauty & black that you can imagine.

Item 1: L’Cret Hair Color Keeper Treatment Shampoo
Full size, 300ml. Value of $42.
Product Description: A must-have treatment shampoo for those with dyed hair. The color-keeping blend of sunflower seed, babassu seed oil, panthenol and silk protein protects the hair from fading in color or UV bleaching, while delivering rich nutrients for a healthy moisture & oil balance.
Quick thoughts: I don’t have dyed hair so this will go into the swap/sale box.

Item 2: Honest Clinic Black Hole Spot
Full size, 10ml. Value of $26.
Product Description: This contains a special A+BHA complex – perfect balance of AHA and BHA components, formulated to gently melt away excessive dead skin cells and impurities from both inside the pores and the outer surface. It effectively treats acne and blemish spots with just a single application while brightening up darkened, uneven skin tone.
Quick thoughts: A little amused with the “melt away excessive dead skin cells” – er, are there any dead skin cells that are not excessive? Anyway, this will get used.

Item 3: Tosowoong Black-Head Nose Pack
Full size, 8ea. Value of $6.
Product Description: Formulated with Morrocan lava clay, charcoal powder, and volcanic ash, this is entirely made up of natural ingredients and the black color of the patches comes from actual charcoal powders. It’s gentle on the skin yet effectively draws out stubborn blackheads from your nose.
Quick thoughts: The one product that really meets my expectations of the box – charcoal, black, and removes blackheads, also happens to be the cheapest product of the whole box. This will definitely get used – I love using nose packs so I’m happy to get this.

Item 4: B&SOAP Black Block
Full size, 85g. Value of $24.
Product Description: A black soap bar made from nature’s clean-up crew – charcoal, rosemary, and olive oil. It gets to the bottom of skin’s cloudy, clogged pores to clear the way for smoother, softer, and brighter-looking skin. Formulated for combination to oily skin, this absorbs debris and impurities while the rosemary extract acts as a natural antibacterial agent to detoxify pores without irritation.
Quick thoughts: Another product not targeted towards my skin type – plus I don’t like using bar soaps, so this should be on the sale/swap box.

The value of this box came up to USD98 versus USD19 for the individual box. After getting 6-7 items for USD23 boxes on a regular basis, getting only 4 items in these USD19 boxes makes me feel like they should have had one more item.

I’m pretty disappointed with this box – the shampoo and spot cream obviously just had black boxes. The one product that I like and can use is the cheapest product in the entire box and I most likely won’t be using 2 of the products. So to me, I thought this box was not good value.

Did you get this box? What do you think of the products?

This is totally me… I honestly have no idea what happened but I was buying every single memebox they sold and suddenly I have so many that I dont even remember buying. This box though.. I didn’t buy this one and I’m glad I didn’t, the Petit/Apple/Blackout set ended up being busts (well except for Apple which I actually like and bought in a restock), but yeah… the lack of the 5th item sorta makes these throwaways for me. Like, these are akin to the color/scentboxes now. Arg.
