Empties #20: April 2015 – Part 2

Welcome back to Part 2 of my empties post for April 2015! Do you ever feel like, when you’re nice or the responsible one, people seem to take advantage of you? This is what my April felt like – I’ve been running around helping other people and I can feel myself burning out. My to-do list for others are so long, but a lot of things are for people really close to me so I just can’t say no. Add on all of my own issues to settle – and my skin suffers. I’m going to hold back trying new stuff for the next month or so, to let my skin have a rest; so I’m guessing that next month’s empties won’t be so full! But then again, I always surprise myself. Anyway, let’s dig into my beauty trash!

5 Friday Favourites #5

Wow, I have been neglecting my 5 Friday Favourites! It’s not that I don’t have any – somehow I just never remember to put them up. I’ve been on the move lately – taking some weekend trips as well as running about town meeting up with friends since it’s the holidays so I have been enjoying things that are convenient, travel-friendly or have more than one use.

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer is a great cheek highlighter for the face, and can be used as a brow bone shade as well. I’ve been loving the Fresh Sugar Rose Tinted Lip Treatment – a nice soft rose shade on the lips and provides moisture at the same time. Covergirl CG Smoothers Concealer in 710 Light works well when you’re short on time or have forgotten to bring foundation along; in a pinch I just swipe a couple of strokes everywhere, blend it in, and that’s all I need.

I’ve been bringing around this mini tube of Benefit Stay Don’t Stray – the itty bitty size is just too cute but of course it’s not just about the packaging; it works really well at keeping eyeshadow in place. The Tarte Lipsurgence Lip Gloss in Belle looks so beautiful on the lips; it’s not too sticky, feels comfortable on and easy to throw on towards the end of the day to vamp up your look for the night.

So that’s 5 items that I have been absolutely loving lately; what about you?

Final Swatch #9: the Balm Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter

After trashing the theBalm Time Balm Foundation recently, it reminded me that I had a couple of theBalm products that I needed to get rid of, one of which is the Mary-Lou Manizer Highlighter. This is actually a love – the texture is really soft and finely milled, with really good lasting power. It looks so gorgeous on, reflects light beautifully and in all the right ways, without being shimmery or sparkly. This is my favourite highlighter of all time!

If it’s so fantastic, then why am I letting this go? Well, I actually received a small but deluxe sample of this in a subscription beauty box which I thought was more than enough for my personal use. I think my overflowing beauty cupboard needs the space for a different product, not replicas of the same thing so this full size one has got to go. I have found a buyer for this, so at least I know it will continue to be loved!

Final Swatch #8: The Balm Time Balm Foundation

I was looking for a full coverage foundation and saw this – a cream compact foundation that claims to have medium to full coverage, this appealed to me for its convenience, and as a big fan of The Balm’s powder eyeshadows and blushes, I figured that I can’t go too wrong with a foundation of theirs.

Boy, was I wrong!

The foundation is a very thick and creamy product but it does not blend well and feels really heavy on my skin. I tried many ways to use this – with a wet sponge, brush, hands, but it still looked like I had a thick layer of paint on my face. I also suspect a few zits that appeared on my face was the result of using this. I could not powder my face, because the powder just sticks to the really thick texture which does not really “dry” down. Not a pretty sight.

Into the trash bin, this is going.

Midweek Peek #10: Hitting Pan!

One of the signs that you’re a makeup addict is when you feel your heart flutter and beat a little faster as you see a silver pan peeking through your makeup product – also known as hitting pan. Recently I noticed that I’ve hit pan on quite a number of products so I thought I’ll share them!

First up is the NARS Orgasm Blush – this was my favourite blush a couple of years ago and it was all I used! But now now I’m less fond of corals and more into pinks, I reach for the NARS Deep Throat Blush more – a blush that leans more pink on me, and seems to brighten up my face.

Next is a depotted The Balm Devilish Danielle Eye Shadow from Shadowy Lady Vol II; this is a really nice brow highlight that I reach for almost daily – it has a really lovely sheen without being too metallic. I also love the Physician’s Formula Glow & Mood Boosting Powder in Translucent, used all over the face to add a little glow – I might be throwing this soon before completing it as I only use the lighter side and that’s almost all gone.

I have a couple more items that I suspect will hit pan soon and I can’t wait! I’m weird like that! Do you feel the same when you hit pan? What have you hit pan on lately?
